EVERETT -- Police are investigating two small, suspicious fires set in south Everett overnight.

One fire apparently was set in some wooden pallets outside an alternative school early Wednesday morning, officials said. The other was apparently set an hour or two before at a manufacturing business nearby.

The fire alarm went off about 12:30 a.m. outside ACES High School at 9700 Holly Drive, Everett Fire Marshal Rick Robinson said.

"Sprinklers controlled the fire, but some smoke got into the building," he said.

The school has about 200 students, Mukilteo School District spokesman Andy Muntz said. Classes were canceled Wednesday while crews cleaned up the smoke damage. It wasn't clear yet if the building would re-open Thursday.

Police are investigating whether the school fire was connected to another fire reported an hour or two earlier at the Fluke Corporation along Seaway Boulevard, police officer Aaron Snell said.

The second fire also caused minor damage.

Further details weren't immediately available.
