DT Jason Jones placed on injured reserve

Heading into a matchup against one of the league's best offensive lines, the Seahawks suddenly find themselves thin on their defensive line. Already this week there was a question about the availability of defensive tackle Alan Branch, who injured his ankle last weekend and didn't practice Wednesday, and now the Seahawks will be without defensive tackle Jason Jones, who was placed on injured reserve Thursday.

Jones, who Seattle signed to a one-year deal in free agency, was not a starter, but played extensively as an interior pass rusher in nickel packages. He had three sacks this season, but his impact went beyond that with his ability to get a push up the middle and collapse the pocket on passing plays. Jones had knee surgery in the offseason, and that limited his ability to practice during training camp, but the knee did not keep him out of any games this year, though he did miss two games with an ankle injury. On Monday, Pete Carroll said Jones had some soreness in his knee coming out of the game in Toronto, but gave no indication of the severity of the injury.

The Seahawks promoted DT Hebron Fangupo off the practice squad to take Jones' place on the roster, and also added receiver Bryan Walters, a graduate of Juanita High School in Kirkland, to the practice squad.
