ATLANTA — Shorthanded Washington struggled with its shooting in the first half and failed to keep Georgia Tech off the boards all game in the Huskies 52-44 loss to the Yellow Jackets.
Washington (7-3) was without Mercedes Wetmore and Mathilde Gilling, who were benched by the flu and were unavailable, and had just seven players available. UW’s Heather Corral who made her season debut after missing more than a month with a hand injury.
The Huskies shot just 2-for-17 from the 3-point range in the first half, but trailed the Yellow Jackets (5-5) just 22-19 at the break. Washington bolted to a 16-4 lead before its shots quit falling. UW was out-rebounded by Georgia Tech 63-36 for the game.
“I thought we played with great energy and effort,” head coach Kevin McGuff said. “We just need to clean up a few things that Georgia Tech did better than us today.”
