San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh celebrated his 49th birthday by watching his team get trounced by the Seahawks. And not only that, Harbaugh’s current team was done in, in no small part, by two of his former players.
So, Richard Sherman, did you wish your old coach a happy birthday?
“I did,” the Seahawks cornerback said. “I did it with a 90-yard touchdown.”
Sherman and Doug Baldwin, who both played for Harbaugh at Stanford, made no secret of the fact that they wanted to shine against their old coach. Sherman not only returned a block punt for a score, he also had an interception in the end zone to deny the 49ers another score. Baldwin, meanwhile, had one of his best game of the season, catching four passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
“I would be lying to you if I said it didn’t (get extra motivation playing Harbaugh),” Baldwin said. “But ultimately it’s just the fact we won the game, and the fashion we won the game in, that’s what I’m most happy about.”
As Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times pointed out, Harbaugh’s former players outscored his current ones on Sunday, with Baldwin and Sherman accounting for three touchdowns compared to the ‘Niners’ 13 points.
A couple notes from Carroll press conference:
Carroll said the Seahawks came out of the game healthy, and that they’re also expecting to get cornerbacks Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond back from hamstring injuries. That’s good news for Seattle, especially if Sherman loses his appeal. Brandon Browner still has one game left on his four-game suspension, then he’ll be back for the postseason.
Guard John Moffitt, who was a surprise inactive, was healthy, but Carroll decided to go with rookie JR Sweezy at right guard instead of Moffitt.
