If there’s a fresh Christmas tree in your living room, it’s a good time to start thinking about how you’re going to recycle it after the holidays.

Here are some options in Snohomish County.

Boy Scouts of America: Through a service project called Operation Dry Needles, local Boy Scout troops offer curbside pickup and drop-off locations to most Snohomish County residents.

To see what’s available in your area and when, go to www.dryneedles.com or call 425-338-0380.

There’s a small suggested donation for this service, usually $5 to $20. You can support your local troop in person, by mail or by placing your donation in a sealed envelope and taping it to your door.

Garbage haulers: If you use a yard waste service, you can cut your undecorated Christmas tree into manageable pieces (less than 4 feet in length) and recycle them for free in your yard waste bin.

Some garbage haulers will recycle trees curbside for a small charge, usually about $5.

To find out who your garbage hauler is, go to www1.co.snohomish.wa.us and search “garbage haulers,” or call 800-592-9995.

Compost facilities: Many local composting facilities offer a recycling service. Pacific Topsoils has multiple locations around Snohomish County that accept trees for $3 each.

Go to www.pacifictopsoils.com or call 800-884-7645 for more information.

Search 1800recycle.wa.gov to find other composting facilities in your area.

Snohomish County Solid Waste: Snohomish County will accept Christmas trees for $5 each, flocked or not, at its transfer stations in Everett, Arlington and Mountlake Terrace. Search “solid waste” at www1.co.snohomish.wa.us or call 425-388-3425 for information.
