The Mukilteo-based Altrec FC boys soccer team captured the Washington Youth Soccer State Rec Cup U-16 championship on Dec. 9 in Tukwila.
Altrec FC, representing the Mukilteo Youth Soccer Club, defeated the Renton SSC Eagles 3-1 in overtime in the title game to wrap up an undefeated season.
The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in regulation. Dominik Smith accounted for Altrec FC’s goal, scoring on a direct kick from 25 yards out in the 46th minute.
In overtime, Will Kramer scored in the 92nd minute and Brandon Wright added a second goal four minutes later to seal Altrec FC’s victory.
Altrec FC is made up of players from Kamiak, Mariner and Archbishop Murphy high schools. In addition to Smith, Kramer and Wright the roster included Spencer Donnelson, Enrique Bedolla, Coby Coimbra, Zack Gregory, Alex Levin, Tristan Bratvold, Tyler Keele, Greg Allen, Nick Watson, Garrett Peterson, Tanner Wilde, Jay Kamp, Sean Keown and Tate Johnson.
The team was coached by Blaine Donnelson. He was assisted by Brady Olason.
GNAC honors Allen
John Allen of Western Washington University was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 16-22.
Allen, a senior guard from Brier, scored 47 points in leading the Vikings to a pair of victories at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas: a 72-69 win over Drury and a 103-74 victory over Central Oklahoma. Allen scored a season-high 32 points in the Central Oklahoma game.
The two victories extended the Vikings’ win streak to 15 games, matching the longest in school history.
Hovis named an all-star
Mitch Hovis, a 13-year-old from Mukilteo, has been named to the 2013 Pacific Northwest Swimming Boys 13-14 All-Star Team. The 32-member squad is scheduled to travel to Santa Rosa, Calif., in January to compete in the Pacific Coast All-Star Meet.
Hovis is an eighth-grader at Harbour Pointe Middle School. He swims for the King Aquatic Club and is coached by Ash Milad.
