EVERETT -- The Lowell neighborhood's historical association has produced a 2013 calendar featuring old photographs.
The calendar, funded by a Snohomish County Heritage Foundation grant, is offered for sale, with proceeds going to events celebrating the neighborhood's 150th anniversary.
Lowell was founded in 1863 by pioneer E. D. Smith who later built Lowell's first paper mill.
The mill was an important employer in the Lowell area of Everett for more than 80 years. Members of the historical association said that many people worked their entire adult lives in the mill.
The Neighborhood Association of Lowell and the Lowell Historical Association would like to hear from people with family stories about life in Lowell in the early years.
The groups also plan to publish a 150th celebration book.
The calendar includes the photos such as one taken on a snowy day, likely in the late 1890s. The photo is of "downtown" Lowell looking north. A horse and buggy stand in front of a grocery store. To the right is the Lowell Community Church, which stands today. The Mountain View Hotel is north of the church.
The calendars cost $15 and are available by calling Gail Chism at 425-258-9381 through Dec. 29. After that, the price rises to $20.
