Horace J. McGee was elected president of the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce at its annual election meeting held in the Snohomish VFW Hall. Other new officers were Vinton Allen, Max Weed, Ned Carrick, Ray Kanfelson and Harris Freal. Retiring president was Willis Tucker.
Dale Hoggins, well-known Edmonds School District administrator, announced his candidacy for president of the Washington Education Association. Hoggins had been an energetic advocate of Washington public schools. He said he would campaign on a progressive program designed to further the educational welfare of Washington's children.
25 years ago (1987)
The state's first fiber-optic telephone network designed exclusively for a business park would be installed by GTE Northwest at Seaway Center, a 300-acre business complex under construction in south Everett. GTE spokesperson Charles Henderson dubbed the concept "Smart Park."
The Everett School District decided to delay construction of the planned Heatherwood Middle School on the edge of Mill Creek. Unresolved traffic and environmental concerns made it impossible for the district to complete the final environmental impact statement, according to Superintendent Paul Sjunnesen.
