The Panthers held Stanwood to single-digit scoring in all four quarters and got just enough offense in the first half to secure another low-scoring win.
"We definitely played great defense, we gave a ton of effort," said Snohomish assistant coach Joel Boyer. "Stanwood's a great team with two good posts in Rachel Swartz and Tristan Murphy. The guards did a good job of making it tough (for Stanwood to pass the ball into Swartz and Murphy) and the posts did a good job of battling inside."
Murphy had a game-high 13 points, but Swartz was held to two. Callie Harwood scored 12 points to lead the Snohomish offense.
The Panthers put up 12 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 24-17 lead into halftime. After the break, the Spartans increased their defensive pressure to stymie Snohomish.
"Stanwood did a good job of forcing us into tougher shots," said Boyer. "They made us think more."
Despite the better effort defensively, the Spartans had difficulty scoring themselves, with just 15 points in the second half, and never could catch up to Snohomish.
Counting this game, the Panthers are scoring just under 43 points per game, but are now 6-2 overall thanks to a defense that is allowing less than 35 points a contest.
"Even though we're struggling on offense, we're still playing great defense," said Boyer. "We're doing a good job of not taking our offensive struggles to the defensive end."
