Make your mark: You can add your creative touch and a family heirloom to the mosaic wall going up at Everett plaza. Artist Linda Beaumont is leading a free mosaic workshop for the community from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday in the Anderson Room at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave., Everett. The event is suitable for adults and all children 8 years old and older. All materials will be provided. You are also welcome to bring a special memento or family treasure to place in your mosaic. Objects can include broken plates, a favorite teacup or metal keepsake, a string of pearls, an old ring, a button, old jewelry and brooches and other small treasures. Don't bring paper, plastic, fabric or cloth. No organic materials. For more information, call Carol Thomas at the city of Everett at 425 257-7101.

New Year's Eve just for kids: On New Year's Eve, Imagine Children's Museum in Everett will celebrate from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be a ball drop, magician, crafts and much more. Also, the museum is normally closed on Mondays, but will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The New Year's Eve evening event requires a ticket. They are cheaper if you buy them in advance. Boom! Start 2013 with a bang at the Space Needle. The annual fireworks kick off just before midnight. There's plenty going on at Seattle Center beforehand if you want to join the party. Or you could catch the show from one of many vantage points around the city, such as Gas Works Park.
