More Sounder, Amtrak runs canceled

SEATTLE -- A Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman says passenger train service between Seattle and Everett will be canceled until at least next Wednesday as continuing rain has led to mudslides.

Spokesman Gus Melonas said the shutdown of the train line affects Amtrak and Sounder services. The passenger line has been closed since Dec. 17. A line used by freight trains continues to be used. Earlier this week, BNSF has said it hoped to open the passenger line by Monday.

Melonas said another 40-foot long and three-foot deep slide hit the passenger line on Wednesday. He said rail crews continue cleanup of debris that has hit the train line.
