SPOKANE -- Former Spokane police Officer Karl Thompson has been transferred to a federal prison outside Washington state.

Thompson was sentenced to more than four years in prison for using excessive force and lying to investigators in the death of Otto Zehm, who was mistakenly suspected of theft.

KREM reported that a lawyer for Thompson wouldn't identify the prison to protect him from other inmates who may have a grudge against police.
