Seems Like Yesterday
Lynette Liffrig's second graders at Silver Lake School were completing a writing assignment. First and second graders used manuscript exclusively, with the change to cursive in third grades. Students included right-hander Patty Stubbs and left-hander Kevin Price.
The Pilchuck Riders 4-H Club was to hold a play day at the Skyine Arena on Sunday. Ribbons were to be awarded. Leaders of the Pilchuck Riders were Mr. and Mrs. Max Ford, Ester Murphy, Donna White and Al Sturlagson.
25 years ago (1987)
After more than 15 years on the bench, Judge Dennis Britt said he was timing his retirement to the elections next year so that whoever succeeded him had to win the voters' approval. Britt had earned top rankings by attorneys for his integrity, knowledge and understanding of the law.
General Telephone Company of the Northwest Inc., was to start the new year with its new name GTE Northwest. It was a subsidiary of the GTE Corp. The company served nearly 800,000 customers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, northern California and western Montana.
