50 years ago (1962)
Winners in the Lake Stevens Christmas decorations contest were announced by the Lake Stevens Garden Club. They were Mr. and Mrs. Gus Anderson, trees; Mrs. Phyllis Brattain, doors; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Woodford, windows; Mrs. And Mrs. Lloyd Anderson, seasonal theme; Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Whitsell, dock; and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Sherin, eaves.
County anglers were facing a sad holiday tomorrow after rain raised the rivers higher than they were last week. The Skykomish and Stillaguamish were too high to fish and the Snohomish was too muddy.
25 years ago (1987)
When William Alexander of Everett re-enlisted for six years in the Navy this week, (he had already served more than four years) he kept alive a family tradition. He was perpetuating a tradition of 146 years of continuous Navy service by his family.
Marble Thomas, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 2100 in Everett, with the help of Sharon Hoerr and her daughter, Deann, answered 35 letters to Santa received at the Everett Post Office.
