Gun violence

Correct term is 'expanding ammo'

SHARE: facebook Twitter icon Linkedin icon Google+ icon Email icon |  PRINTER-FRIENDLY
Regarding the letter, "Exploding ammo needs attention": Please! Let's use the correct terminology, especially on a topic as volatile as gun violence. I've read the military has some exploding small arms ammunition in the research and development stage, but I'm pretty sure it is not available to the public, probably never will be and will likely be too expensive and too complicated to be used outside the military. The correct term is "expanding ammo." There is no such thing as "exploding" ammunition, as much as the sensationalists would like there to be. And bullet technology has long been improved to the point that fragmentation is more exceptional than common.
