Inspectors seize counterfeit iPhone cables

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Anchorage-based customs inspectors say they'll destroy more than 12,000 counterfeit iPhone connector cables and adapters seized last month.
The Anchorage Daily News reported that officials discovered the accessories while working at FedEx's Anchorage sorting facility. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Frank Falcon said a manufacturer in China had sent the items to a U.S. wholesaler, which Falcon declined to name.
He said the cables and adapters were stamped with fraudulent Apple logos, the large international shipment carried an improper shipping manifest, and the packaging was of a lower quality than typical Apple packaging.
Based on normal retail prices, the accessories were worth more than $636,000. Falcon said such counterfeit cords are often sold in retail stores or online.
