50 years ago (1963)
Lake Stevens center Steve Thompson sparked the Vikings with an outstanding performance. He tailed 17 points the second half, equal to the output of the entire Concrete Team. His total for the victory was 21 points.
Funnies in the paper were They'll Do It Every Time, Louie, Dixie Dugan, Gordo, The Berrys, Mogo, Archie, Jackson Twins and Ponytail. Also on the comic strip page were Young Hobby Club, Today's Crossword Puzzle and Star Gazer.
25 years ago (1988)
A crew of archaeologists was working at Preston Point, the northernmost point on the Everett peninsula. Once the site of the Indian village of Hebolb, it was now the home of a mountain of wood chips owned by Scott Paper Co. The Port of Everett was studying the feasibility of filling about 35 acres of inter-tidal land nearby, according to Dennis Gregoire, port director of planning.
Among local singers taking part in auditions to be staged by the Metropolitan Opera National Council were Gretchen Krehbiebi, soprano and Paul Karaitis, tenor, both of Everett; Gene Lucchetti, tenor, of Edmonds; and Dianne Maki-Reed, soprano, of Monroe.
