Snow in mountains, Eastern Washington

SEATTLE -- Forecasters say Monday's snow in the mountains and Eastern Washington could be followed by a stronger system Tuesday night that could drop an inch or two of snow by Wednesday night in the higher locations of the Western Washington lowlands.
The National Weather Service forecast a foot of snow or more in the higher elevations of the Cascades on Monday with snow or freezing rain at the passes.
Heavy snow fell over much of the Inland Northwest on Monday morning.
About 5 inches fell in the Spokane area by early Monday morning, and schools were closed in the towns of Freeman, Medical Lake, Cheney and Davenport.
The city of Spokane declared a snow emergency Monday, meaning plows would work 24 hours a day to keep roads open.
