Guns alone kill 11,000 a year

In regard to the letter, "Guns not involved in our worst event," comparing guns to "box cutters," yes, the writer is right that over 3,000 people lost their lives by "box cutters" one might say. However, over 11,000 people, most innocent victims, lose their lives by gun violence each year. In the mass murders most would agree the perpetrators have been home grown terrorists which makes it even worse.

By the way, "box cutters" are no longer allowed on airplanes, and everyone who travels by air must remove their shoes, yet not one life has been lost by a "shoe incident." Action has been taken in these relatively obscure events, yet no measures are needed to prevent us from gun violence?

When 3,000 people lost their lives on 9/11, the resulting "action taken" was a long war, costing tax payers billions and more importantly the loss of countless U.S. soldiers, let alone all the innocent civilians in Iraq. Now that is action by our government!

All most want is for Congress to take this topic of gun violence in this country as seriously as we expect them to do, as it pertains to all of our safety. Four times as many lives are taken by guns, each and every year, yet that seems to be OK? Is that really what we want as a nation?
