Two counts part of national effort
The Edmonds count includes south Everett, Mukilteo, Lynnwood, Edmonds, Bothell, Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park and the southeast tip of Whidbey Island. There were 84 volunteers covering this area -- 68 in the field and 16 at home watching bird feeders. A 122 species were found among the 42,784 individual birds counted. Northern Shrikes, Red Crossbills and Townsend's Warblers were among the species that volunteers delighted in reporting during the compilation dinner at Third Place Books following the count.
Pilchuck Audubon thanks all the volunteers who participated in both of our area counts. December is not a comfortable month to be outside for hours at a time and the fact that our volunteers do so speaks both to the love they have for birds and the priority they place on providing valuable data for bird researchers.
