MILL CREEK -- Two Mill Creek police cars sustained significant damage Tuesday afternoon in a collision in the 15400 block of Highway 527 near the Central Market, officials said.

The accident, which involved a third car driven by a resident, occurred in a northbound lane shortly before 4 p.m., Mill Creek officer Ian Durkee said.

The officers were on their way to a report of a burglary in progress when the collision happened, Durkee said.

Arrangements were being made late Tuesday afternoon to have an outside law enforcement agency investigate the circumstances of the wreck.

Durkee said the investigation likely will be conducted by either the Washington State Patrol or Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

No description was immediately available of how the accident happened.

Both officers and the third person were examined by medics at the scene. Their injuries were believed to be minor, Durkee said.
