PORTLAND -- A soldier accused of beating a 75-year-old driver in a road rage clash in Portland was sentenced Monday to 14 months in prison.

Aaron Scott Altabef pleaded guilty last month to attempted assault as part of a plea agreement. He's a member of the Oregon Army National Guard who served in Afghanistan in 2011.

Last May the 36-year-old was involved in a confrontation with Randall McMichael, of Wilsonville, in traffic.

The Oregonian reports Altabef yanked the older man out of his car and punched him several times, breaking his jaw and two ribs.

Altabef's lawyer, David T. McDonald, said his client was stressed and readjusting from his time in Afghanistan.
