50 years ago (1963)
Albert J. Swing, 919 Grand Ave., acting regional director of Emergency Planning, was named public administration adviser of the United State Agency for International Development in Dacca, East Pakistan. Swing would advise on procedure and methods to help the provisional government.
Steven Butterfield and Pat Moore, fourth-grade students of Mary Falkner at Madison School, were completing a unit of study on the lumbering and paper-making industry. One of the exhibits was a panel of woods and wood chips. It was part of the fourth-grade curriculum.
25 years ago (1988)
The Rev. Bill Bohannan stood outside 3612 Hoyt Ave. The house had been recently purchased by the Christian Armed Services Association to provide for military housing for families moving to Everett because of the new Navy base.
A six-mile stretch of road linking Highway 99 and the Mukilteo ferry terminal had an image problem. After years of talk a group was proposing a name change. Suggestions included Mukilteo Way, Mukilteo Parkway, Mukilteo Drive, Lighthouse Way and Rosehill Boulevard. Oscar Olson, formerly of Mukilteo and now of Everett, said a name change would take away a piece of history for Mukilteo.
