Everett: Commission focuses on growth
The city of Everett has scheduled a public workshop this month to explore the community's challenge in making room for more homes and businesses despite a shrinking supply of undeveloped land.
The Everett Planning Commission plans to conduct the workshop starting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Planning Hearing Room on the eighth floor of the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave.
According to the city, regional growth plans direct more people and businesses to Everett, in part to capitalize on investments made in fast and frequent high-capacity service.
The workshop's purpose is to provide an overview of planning work that needs to be completed and to call attention to key issues, including urban service levels, housing choices and transportation options. The work will be folded into the city's planned 2015 growth management plan update.
The public is encouraged to attend and comment.
Mukilteo: Historic society will meet
The general meeting of the Mukilteo Historical Society is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the Fowler Room at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave. in old town Mukilteo.
Tim Taylor will present a brief history of Taylor's Landing restaurant -- now Ivar's Mukilteo Landing. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
Oso: Community center group to meet tonight
The Oso Community Center's quarterly meeting is set for 7 tonight at the center, which is the old Oso School.
Snohomish County: Civil Service spot open
The Snohomish County government is seeking applicants to serve on the Civil Service Commission.
The commission oversees the merit system of employment for county sheriff's office employees, including deputies.
To be considered, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter and have lived in the county for the past two years. Applicants cannot hold public office or be county employees.
Commission members are unpaid. The open position's term expires in Dec. 31, 2014.
The commission meets at 10:15 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the County Administration West Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. For more information, contact Lynn Trowbridge at 425-388-3600 or lynn.trowbridge@snoco.org.
