Arlington: Theater group needs kids
The Blue Stilly Players community theater group plans to perform Feb. 2 at the Eagle Festival. The group is looking for for children of all ages to be a part of a short play that includes woodsy characters.
The play is “Mink and Eagle,” written by Lois Landgrebe, Lushootseed language instructor with the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians.

Fundraiser is high school project
A silent auction and spaghetti feed to benefit Arc of Snohomish County is set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia Hall, 225 E. Third St.
The fundraiser is organized by Arlington High School student Christina Rogers as part of her senior project. Arc is an advocate for people with developmental disorders.

Lynnwood: Angela Davis to speak
Activist, scholar and two-time Communist Party vice presidential candidate Angela Davis will be the featured speaker at Lynnwood’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration Jan. 17.
Davis will speak twice, first at 12:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theater at Edmonds Community College, and again at 6:30 p.m. at the Lynnwood Convention Center. Both events are free and open to the public.
The afternoon event will be held in the Black Box Theatre on the college campus at 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
The Lynnwood Convention Center is at 3711 196th St. SW.
Davis is the author of “Women, Race, and Class” (1980) and “Are Prisons Obsolete?” (2003).

Stanwood: Council member sought
Stanwood is seeking applications for appointment to council position No. 6, vacated in December by Roger Haskin.
Those who apply must be registered voters and must have lived in the city for the past 12 consecutive months.
The appointment is from February to November 2013, when the city must hold an election to fill the position. The person elected will serve until Dec. 31, 2015.
Stanwood City Council members attend regularly scheduled and special meetings, they serve on council committees, regional boards and commissions, and represent the city at various community functions.
Those interested should submit a resume and letter of interest to Mayor Dianne White by 5 p.m. Tuesday, city clerk’s office, 10220 270th St. NW. Candidates will interview for the position at a public meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24. The City Council will announce the appointment following interviews and the new council member will be sworn into office on Feb. 14.
County: Civil Service spot open
Snohomish County government is seeking applicants to serve on the Civil Service Commission.
The commission oversees the merit system of employment for county sheriff’s office employees, including deputies.
To be considered, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter and have lived in the county for the past two years. Applicants cannot hold public office or be county employees.
Commission members are unpaid. The open position’s term expires in Dec. 31, 2014.
The commission meets at 10:15 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the County Administration West Building, 3000 Rockefeller Avenue, Everett.
