Terry Krappe, a student assistant, demonstrated the use of the balance beam to Olympic View Junior High students Judy Wallen and Lynn Childs. The beam enhanced the school's program of tumbling, gymnastics, body conditioning and weight lifting. Betty Rider was the supervising teacher. Kris Johnson was the other student assistant.
Fifth graders in Al Stivala's classroom at Washington School were studying a composite of geographic and historical features of the 50 states. Each student was responsible for a certain state. Danny Crocker had Idaho as his assignment and Bettilew Peckinger reported on Alaska.

Evergreen Community Choir was the name of a newly formed choir in Snohomish County, open to anyone interested in singing. Auditions weren't necessary to join. Tom Kay was the founder.
Gretchen Krehbiel of Edmonds was one of five singers who advanced a round in the annual Metropolitan Opera Districts Auditions conducted at the University of Washington. A lyric soprano, she received $100 and a chance to compete in the next round of auditions. She was a piano teacher and accompanist.
