Air Force Airman Kyle D. Walsh graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Keith Walsh of Stanwood and Lisa Walsh of Limon, Colo. The airman graduated from a home-school program in 2011.

Air Force Airman Antony J. Barbero graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Barbero is the son of Jim Barbero of Arlington. He is a 2011 graduate of Arlington High School.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Amanda Sandoval graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Sandoval is the daughter of Miguel Sandoval of Mountlake Terrace and is a 2011 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School.

Air Force Airman Joshua M. Sayre graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Sayre earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Maureen Capellan and stepson of Jose Capellan of Oak Harbor. The airman is a 2010 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Navy Seaman Samuel J. Willhoite, son of Rebecca Schlegal of Pasco and Robert Willhoite of Lynnwood, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Fireman Darren M. Edwards, son of Sheri and James Edwards of Arlington, has completed basic training at Navy Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Edwards is a 2006 graduate of Arlington High School and a 2011 graduate of Western Washington University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree.

Army 1st Lt. Nathan J. Taggart was awarded the Bronze Star Medal on Jan. 1 for his service in southern Afghanistan. Presenting the medal was Maj. Gen. Robert Abrams, 3rd Infantry Division commander and commander of NATO forces. Taggart is a 2006 graduate of Stanwood High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of Washington. He is the son of Lisa and Randy Taggart of Stanwood. Taggart is scheduled to return to Joint Base Lewis-McChord this month. He is a medic platoon leader with the 2nd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

Army Pvt. Anthony M. Kolvick has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Kolvick is the son of Barbara Kolvick of Arlington. He is a 2009 graduate of Sedro-Woolley High School.
