Federal budget

Military gobbles up every last cent

I have one question for folks who are upset that their taxes just went up: When do you plan to pay for your security? We have been borrowing for a generation to pay for our oversized military. The U.S. makes up 5 percent of the world population and pays 50 percent of the money spent on militaries. That sounds unsustainable to me. A fraction of the money we wasted in Iraq could have been spent to send every U.S. student to college free, and have lots left over to improve our roads and our schools, as well as feed the poor.
So, right-wingers in general and baby boomers in particular: If not now, when is it time to pay for the military you are so fond of? When is it time to start working on not just reducing deficit spending, but actually paying down our massive national debt?
