$500,000 bail for sex offender arrested in standoff

EVERETT -- A judge on Wednesday set a hefty bail for a lanky man with a troubled past.
Bail was set at $500,000 for Jason Daniel Tryon, a convicted sex offender arrested Monday after a 13-hour police standoff in Marysville.
Everett District Court Judge Tam Bui followed a prosecutor's recommendation Wednesday in deciding on the half million dollar bail.
Tryon, who stands 6 feet, 8 inches, was arrested for investigation of assault and unlawful imprisonment.
Police were called to his girlfriend's apartment after he allegedly punched her in the nose. He'd spent the night drinking alcohol and smoking methamphetamine and marijuana, according to a police affidavit. He also threatened to cut himself with a butcher knife.
When the woman sought help, one of his neighbors twice tried to fetch the 4-year-old daughter of Tryon's girlfriend.
Tryon refused to come out or talk to police and would not let the crying child leave, court papers said. He also allegedly threatened the neighbor with a knife.
After hours of trying to convince Tryon to surrender, police forced their way into the bedroom where he had holed up. The child was recovered uninjured.
Tryon, 33, is a Level III registered sex offender with a 2004 conviction for having sex with a teenage girl, whom he also supplied with drugs.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office reports he has no fixed address and is under active community supervision. The conditions of his freedom include avoiding illegal drugs and staying away from children.
When arrested on Monday, Tryon already was awaiting a February trial for moving from a Marysville home and failing to register as a sex offender at his new address.
Tryon's girlfriend on Monday told police that his sex offender history hasn't been an issue in their relationship and that he hasn't harmed her daughter.
Tryon has adult felonies for possessing stolen property, child rape and failing to register as a sex offender. He also has a juvenile conviction for burglary.
