OK to burn again
A burn ban imposed by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has been downgraded.
It is now OK to use natural gas, propane, pellet stoves and newer, certified wood stoves or inserts. During the previous Stage 2 ban, all burning was prohibited unless it was a home's only source of heat.
The Stage 1 ban declared Tuesday applies to Snohomish, King and Pierce counties and will remain in effect until the weather changes.
Burn-ban violations are subject to a $1,000 penalty. For more information, go to www.pscleanair.org.
Legion Park history: David Dilgard of the Everett Public Library will be bringing an original film on the creation of Legion Park to the Northwest Neighborhood meeting Thursday. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with coffee and cookies at Everett Community College, Whitehorse Hall, Room 105. Dilgard is to show the film, "The Creation of Legion Park -- 1930s," from 7 to 8 p.m. The meeting includes a report on crime in the neighborhood and discussion on mini-grants and other business.
State of school district report: Kristine McDuffy, the superintendent of Arlington Public Schools, plans to present the fifth annual "State of the District" address at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.
McDuffy plans to talk about student learning, the district's budget, facilities, stewardship activities and the district's improvement process. An opportunity for discussion is to be provided.
