No one coming to take your guns

Why is it that when we try to bring some sanity to the gun debate we get hysterical rantings from a few waving the Second Amendment, convinced that the government is coming to take away their guns?
Government is not going to take away your guns. Not as long as the majority of citizens don't want them to and we have a democratic form of government. I've been a gun owner and hunter for over 60 years now and I know many hunters and gun owners and not one of them, owner or hunter, has ever, to my knowledge, voiced a fear of government taking away their guns. There is simply no point in getting all upset about the effort to try to stop these horrific mass killings.
What I do hear is that it is time to stop talking and start doing something about the easy availability of these mini weapons of mass destruction to anyone with a pulse. We cannot stop mental illness, nor can we stop a mentally ill person from not taking their meds, but there are many things we can do that will not interfere with our Second Amendment rights and by far, the vast majority of Americans want those things done now.
