SHORELINE -- Ben Andrews and Josh Hawkinson scored 13 points apiece to pace Shorewood to a 44-29 victory over Shorecrest in a Wesco 3A South game on Saturday night.

Andrews and Hawkinson provided the necessary senior leadership against the Scots to help the Thunderbirds (8-1 league, 13-3 overall) move into a first place tie with Mountlake Terrace in the South division.

"Ben Andrews, as a senior, had a real good game for us tonight," said Shorewood assistant coach Sean Dumas. "He did a good job running our offense. Josh played really unselfish. Shorecrest played real hard (against him) and he did a good job defensively."

The Scots used senior center Alex Horning to provide the key defensive matchup for Hawkinson. Horning equalled Hawkinson's 13 point scoring output.

"Horning is their leader inside," said Dumas. "He had 13 tonight and really provided a good matchup for Josh."

Dumas was sure, despite the final score, to credit Shorecrest's tough play in a game that at no point seemed to be a run away victory for Shorewood.

"If you look at the halftime score we were up 19-9," said Dumas."Both teams scored nine points in the third. (Conin) Oishi hit a three and they were right there with us. We took care of the ball and again just chipped away and played good defense. (Shorecrest) played real tough tonight."
