Pick the right flowers for bride’s bouquet

Poor brides. Decisions, decisions. Even the flowers pose problems: Are your favorites in season? Do you want an arm sheaf or a biedermeyer bouquet? What in the world's a tussy-mussy?

Wrapped stems such as the hand-tied bouquet shown here have topped the trend in recent years. Floral designer Nanette Morency of I Do Flowers in Michigan takes the wrap a step farther, using a real aspidistra leaf with crystal pin closures.

Morency offers these tips to defray disappointments: Choose year-round flowers, not seasonal; make sure the blooms can last at least four hours out of water; and commit at least 30 days in advance or get stuck with what's in stock.

This bouquet uses white lisianthus, sweetpeas and hydrangeas with green Fuji mums. See more of Morency's designs at www.nanetteclarebellafiore.blogspot.com.
