unfortunately for them too many turned into the missed opportunities in a 61-43 loss to Kentwood at the 2013 King Showcase at the Showare Center in Kent Monday morning.
The Timberwolves shot 24-percent from the field while the Conquerors shot 43, proving to be the difference in the game.
"We got good opportunities and executed our offense well to get really good looks, but our shots just didn't fall," said Jackson head coach Jeanne Boyer.
Despite the early 10 a.m. start, both teams came out hot. Kentwood led 18-17 after the first quarter and the Timberwolves looked to be givine the South Puget Sound League power everything it wanted and more.
But Jackson went cold in the second quarter and even into the third quarter and the Conquerors pulled away. Kentwood outscored Jackson 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 32-21 lead into halftime and built on the lead out of the break.
"We really just went cold," Boyer said of the second quarter. "We went five minutes without a basket and had a number of cold stretches even into the third quarter that really hurt us."
Boyer said that the size of the Showare Center may have affected her outside shooters a little but it wasn't the overriding issue. Jackson, which shot 6-of-23 from behind the arc, was led in scoring by Faithaleen Lopez-Flores' 19 points, including four 3-pointers.
Boyer singled out Sierra Hagans for praise, pointing out the senior forward's nine points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots as crucial to keeping the Timberwolves in the game. Sierra Anderson added 11 points to the Jackson effort.
