50 years ago (1963)
Harry W. Stuchell was chosen as a new director of the Bank of Everett, filling the vacancy left by the death of Dr. Albert B. Murphy. Stuchell was a charter stockholder in the bank, and had been serving on the building committee during the planning stages of a new bank building.
Elaine Cooper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Les Cooper, 3324 Tulalip Ave., and a graduate of Everett High School, was elected treasurer of the Associated Women Students at the University of Washington. She was a sophomore majoring in speech and political science.
25 years ago (1988)
Local officials had taken an important first step toward a proposed rail line from Everett to Seattle, but completion of the long-dreamed-of system appeared to be decades off. It called for a light-rail system in the I-5 corridor that would also serve Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace.
Two summers ago Don Long laid chalk lines, papered the pitcher’s mound, groomed the batter’s box and was official scorer for the Everett Giants. He even designed the Ebbets Field-style scoreboard at Everett Memorial Stadium. Today he was coaching for the Angels organization.
