Comeback pins leads Meadowdale wrestling over Shorewood

LYNNWOOD -- Three key come-from-behind pins helped Meadowdale wrestling get a Wesco 3A South victory over Shorewood on Tuesday night. Mason Smith, Mark Evanks and Nate Tibbot were all behind in their matches when they managed to turn it around and pin their Shorewood opponents.

A fourth pin by captain Morgan Smith helped sew things up for the Mavericks.

Of the four, freshman Evanks wrestled first at 113. He trailed by five before getting a second-round pin. Second came Tibbot at 145. He also fell behind by five, but finished off his opponent with a pin to tie the match at 18.

Morgan Smith came next at 160 and had Shorewood's Nathan Lee pinned briefly in the first round. He would finish the job in the second. "I had to kind of work for it, but I put him over in the second," said Smith.

Last came Mason Smith at 170, who got in real trouble before turning the tables on Andrew Chung.

Meadowdale head coach Brian Boardman referred to the match as a "game changer." According to Boardman, Mason fought off his back three times and kept getting in bad positions to fall behind by 10 points.

"He got behind ten going into the third round. Then he stood up, turned around, tossed him on his back and pinned him within the first 15-20 seconds of that round," said Boardman.

Boardman was pleased with the come-from-behind pins and said his focus now is on continuing to work hard. "Districts are coming up soon. We want to peak at the end, so that is what we're working on," Boardman said.
