CPSC says 12,200 Specialized bikes being recalled
The agency said the steerer tube at the front of the bicycles can break, creating the risk of a fall. It said two incidents have been reported, including one rider who fell and required stitches after suffering facial injuries and lacerations.
The CPSC said consumers should stop using the bikes and should take them to a repair shop for an inspection and free repairs if needed.
The recall includes all models of Specialized's 2012 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Crux and 2013 Secteur Disc bikes. The CPSC says the bikes were sold between July 2011 and January 2013 for $990 to $11,000 each.
Consumers with questions can call Specialized Bicycle Components, which is based in Morgan Hill, Calif., toll-free at 877-808-8154 or go to its website at www.specialized.com for more information.
