Lithium batteries pose dangers

SHARE: facebook Twitter icon Linkedin icon Google+ icon Email icon |  PRINTER-FRIENDLY
I have been flying small, remote-controlled, electric-powered helicopters as a hobby for many years. They use lithium-ion batteries. Each one came with very scary warnings about the dangers (overheating, fire, and explosion) of overcharging.
They why did the FAA OK lithium-ion batteries for use in a passenger aircraft?
Robert Godfrey
