Post office sets new schedule

In reference to the meeting with the post office yesterday, here is the outcome. I was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict so, THANK YOU to the person whom updated us and THANK YOU also for turning my notes in to the two postmasters. If anything is left out, please email us with further information. We surely do not want to lose our post office.

Two postmasters conducted the meeting, one from Arlington and the other from Coupeville -- both doing this for the first time.

Bottom line: Each year there will be an accounting of business at the post office and a decision on how many hours therefore the postal worker is paid to do.

After they report back, in 30 days the post office will change to a schedule of Monday through Friday 12:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m., with the current hours retained for Saturday, 9-10:30.

There will be no postmaster, rather a person paid by the hour for those hours worked.

The afternoon schedule was chosen as federal law requires the afternoon blue box pickup (outside the store) and 1/3 surveyed prefer that.

Roughly 1/3 preferred an a.m. schedule, 1/3 late a.m. to early p.m.

Sadly it appears that a lot of people just don't care. Out of 224 surveys sent out 79 folks bothered to return them, which seems pretty pathetic.

87% preferred the realignment of hours, 4% the delivery option, zero the village post office option, 1% the nearby post office option, and 8% made no selection.
