Victim of head-on crash moved to Seattle hospital
ARLINGTON -- The victim of a head-on crash on Highway 530 near Arlington this past weekend was listed Wednesday in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Arlington woman, 59, was hospitalized with compound fractures and other serious injuries from the accident, according to police.
She initially was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett's Colby campus, according to a Washington State Patrol collision memo.
A Providence spokeswoman on Tuesday said the woman had been treated and released. The woman actually had been transferred to the Seattle hospital, the Herald confirmed Wednesday. Details about hospital transfers are not always made public due to privacy laws.
The crash happened about 7 p.m. Sunday along the highway near 59th Street NE, just west of town.
Police allege that the suspect, a 55-year-old woman, also from Arlington, was driving her pickup the wrong direction in the eastbound lane when she struck the victim, who was in a Mazda Miata.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and later released, trooper Mark Francis said. She also suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover.
The patrol is treating the crash as a potential case of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
The suspect likely will receive a court summons when the case reaches prosecutors, Francis said.
