Impressions from Glacier Peak's 61-35 victory over Shorewood on Tuesday
Grizzlies have a shot at the Wesco 3A South title on Thursday
The Grizzlies point guard scored 19 points, including eight in the first quarter and seven in the fourth to lead the Grizzlies to a 61-35 victory over Shorewood.
With the win, the Grizzlies will play Mountlake Terrace on Thursday night for the Wesco 3A South crown.
After falling to the Thunderbirds earlier in the season, the Grizzlies sent a message on Tuesday that the rest of the league should hear loud and clear.
Watch out for Glacier Peak.
In our Herald Power poll throughout the season we have had Glacier Peak in the top-five, but they haven't sniffed the top of the poll. A win over Terrace on Thursday and the Grizzlies will be a top-two school in our poll for the first time this season.
After watching the Grizzlies play on Tuesday, I believe they are poised to make a run at the 3A District 1 championship title and I believe that for two reasons.
Ramsey Rosales and Vader.
The Grizzlies have relied on Zach Pederson to do the bulk of their scoring for several seasons, but this season has been different. Rosales and Vader have stepped up to become legitimant scoring threats to take the offensive pressure off Pederson.
What the Grizzlies did against Shorewood was what is known as a statement victory.
According to head coach Brian Hunter, the Grizzlies don't mind being under the radar. They don't mind that they aren't ranked in the 3A state polls and they don't necessarily want to crack the top-10 with their victory over the Thunderbirds.
With a win on Thursday they almost certainly will, but rankings don't seem to matter to this team much. Based on what I saw against Shorewood, I feel like I will have a big case to make to Prep Editor Aaron Swaney and Herald Writer David Krueger to make Glacier Peak the favorite to win the district tournament.
Thursday's game against Mountlake Terrace will go a long way toward making that argument if the Grizzlies are able to pull off the victory.
