SEATTLE -- A Lake Stevens woman has died from injuries she suffered in a crash along Highway 9 in December.

Stephanie Proffitt, 27, died Jan. 19 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the Washington State Patrol. The crash also killed Tyler Martel, 27, of Mill Creek.

The two were in Martel's Subaru Impreza about 10:45 p.m. Dec. 7 as he drove northbound on the highway, just north of Highway 204.

He reportedly began passing a 1990 Ford pickup and slammed into an oncoming Chevy pickup. The driver of the Ford truck was unable to avoid the weckage and struck the Subaru. The impact then sent the truck spinning into a fourth vehicle.

The Chevy's driver, a Lake Stevens man, 26, also was taken to Harborview.

Hospital records show the man was discharged from Harborview in late December, a hospital spokewoman said Thursday. No other serious injuries were reported.
