Two please, mustard and kraut: An arcane state law on property-tax exemptions for nonprofit religious groups theatens the popular Everett Sausage Festival run by Our Lady of Perpetual Help each fall as a fundraiser for its school. The Legislature is considering a bill that could ease rules that appear to prohibit vendors, entertainers and others from taking a cut of the profit.

We could go into more detail about the law, but as Otto von Bismarck advised, like the festival's sausages, it's best if we don't tell you what goes into making it.
