Cascade in second at state bowling championships

UNIVERSITY PLACE -- Kayla Zabel bowled a 211 average for Cascade, leading her team into second place after the first day of the 4A Girls State High School Bowling Championships on Friday.
Cascade bowled a team total of 4,923 at Narrows Plaza, leaving the Bruins 570 pins behind defending state champion Battle Ground, 33 pins ahead of third-place Wenatchee, and 99 in front of fourth-place Pasco.
The two-day tournament concludes today.
Zabel rolled six games and placed second in the singles event. Chrissy Patterson bowled a 171 average for the Cascade team, which also included Cailee Harrison, Marissa Wennerberg, McKenna Gorena, Katie Elliott and Paris Flenoy.
Candice Goldfinch of Everett placed eighth in the Class 3A singles competition with a 185 average, and teammate Brittney Ralston was 29th, bowling an average of 162.
