Sounders Johnson and Evans called in by US Team for World Cup qualifier

Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson and midfielder Brad Evans were both called in by the U.S. National Team for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier in Honduras. Those two will be facing teammate Mario Martinez, who was called in by Honduras.

Johnson and Evans both played in last week's friendly against Canada, but many players who were on that squad were left off for Wednesday's game as many of America's top players, who play in Europe, are coming in for this game. Johnson and Evans are two of the seven MLS players on the roster for Wednesday's game.

Evans, who played the second half of last week's game as a right back, is listed as a defender. He last played a competitive match for the U.S. National Team in 2009. Johnson, meanwhile, continues his push to play in the 2014 World Cup after being left off of the 2010 squad. He was a National Team regular for years after first being called up in 2004, but as he struggled in Europe, he saw his role decrease with the National Team as well. His strong play with Sounders FC led to a call-up last fall, however, and Johnson was one of the best players on the field in a pair of World Cup qualifiers in October.

Sounders FC defender Adam Johansson was called in by Sweden for a friendly against Argentina in Stockholm, Sweden on February 6. Evans, Johnson, Martinez and Johansson are all expected to join Seattle for preseason training following this week's games.
