ARLINGTON -- Three Arlington public schools were placed in lockdown Tuesday while police searched for an assault suspect.

Arlington police went to the 1100 block of E. Fifth Street around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

A man, 34, reported that he was being assaulted by another man who allegedly threatened him with a shotgun before fleeing, Arlington police spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. The suspect, 35, was arrested a block away a short time later.

The man wasn't booked into jail, pending the completion of the investigation, Banfield said.

"We're doing some additional investigation on this one and will forward the case to the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office for a charging decision," Banfield said.

The shotgun was recovered.

Post Middle School, Eagle Creek Elementary School and Stillaguamish Valley School were placed in lockdown for about 20 minutes as a precaution.
