Claims completely out of touch

More Americans are killed by other Americans every year than are killed by the Taliban and al-Qaida combined. That includes the year 2001. The NRA claims that the solution to gun violence is more guns. That's like saying the solutions to forest fires are matches and gasoline. I recently posted the above about the Taliban and al-Qaida on a news feed, and an NRA member replied that he considers anyone who wants to take his guns as an "enemy combatant." He's waiting for another civil war to start, he said, and he's ready to shoot other Americans. He thinks he's a patriot. I think he's more on the side of the Taliban.
The NRA posted an enemies list which had many of its readers, including myself, laughing until we were in pain. Boyz II Men? Barry Manilow? Various medical associations? I'd be interested to see what a psychiatrist thinks about people who would consider Barry Manilow to be an enemy. He made the news here a few years ago for donating musical instruments to schools. And the NRA thinks he's dangerous.
The Bill of Rights was written by men who have been dead for about 200 years. Why are they still being allowed to dictate how we live? Thomas Jefferson said that each generation should be able to write its own Constitution. He knew that things would happen in the future that he couldn't imagine. If our founding fathers could come back to life for just one week and see all the shootings in the news, do you think they'd feel the same way about allowing everyone to have guns? I think they would be horrified, and they would be ashamed that their country has sunk so low.
