Driver clips fire engine at crash scene

Everyone was OK Tuesday night after a truck clipped a fire engine parked along Highway 99 in the Edmonds area.

It happened about 5:15 p.m. near the 21910 block of the highway, Lynnwood fire Lt. Jason Blachly said.

Engine 14 was in the area for a minor car accident, he said.

"They were parked checking on the scene," he said. "A truck tried to squeeze by a little too close."

The truck clipped the fire engine's ladder rack. At least one ladder was destroyed. No one was hurt.

The engine's emergency lights were going at the time, Blachly said.

Parking is tight for emergency vehicles along Highway 99 in south county. We wrote a story about the problem roughly a year ago.
