Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1963)

Robert "Pinky" Erickson, head football coach at Cascade High School, was named The Herald's "Man of the Year in Sports" at last night's banquet in the Everett Elks auditorium. His Bruins had had an undefeated season and placed third in state.

Sonia Thorsteinson, a teacher at Fairmount School, showed students Corinne Carson, Chuck Slaughter and Linda Madsen Cuisennaire materials to help them understand mathematics.

25 years ago (1988)

Elmer and Maggie Temple of Snohomish's Parkway Nursing Home would be honored at a family gathering on the occasion of their 75th wedding anniversary. They were longtime Snohomish and Clearview area residents; Elmer Temple was a former dairy tester. The couple had eight children, 69 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Everett basketball player David Rucker connected on a 3-point goal and a four-point play, cutting into Shorecrest's lead in the final quarter. In all he converted four 3-point shots, led all scorers with 21 points and was 5-for-5 from the freethrow line. Everett went on to win the game. Other high scorers for the Seagulls were David Vik and J.J. Frank.
