Sultan Police Chief Jeff Brand, a lieutenant with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, is being reassigned, sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
The sheriff's office is rotating assignments for lieutenants, and Brand is part of that rotation, she said.
Sultan contracts with the sheriff's office for police services. Brand has been chief in Sultan since the contract went into effect in January 2009.
"I've been very proud, and it's been a great opportunity to work out here with the community, with the people, with the staff," Brand said. "I've been blessed."
The city will work with the sheriff's office to pick the next chief, City Administrator Ken Walker said.
The sheriff's office is expected to recommend candidates, who will be interviewed by the mayor, he said. The mayor and Walker will provide input to the sheriff's office on the selection process.
Brand served the city well, Walker said.
"The citizens here love him, and he's done a wonderful job both in law enforcement and in assisting the community in every way possible," he said.
